WSHFT stands for "Wind Shift" in the remarks section of a METAR report. Indicates that a significant wind shift occurred at the specified time (in minutes past the hour). A wind shift is defined as a change in wind direction of 45 degrees or more in less than 15 minutes with sustained winds of 10 knots or more throughout. Often associated with frontal passages, thunderstorms, or sea breeze fronts.
WSHFT appears in the remarks (RMK) section at the end of a METAR observation. The remarks section follows the main body of the METAR and provides additional details about the observation that don't fit into the standard coded format.
Here is an example: "WSHFT 30". This appears in the remarks section and indicates wind shift information as part of the weather observation.
